Catherine Upex
Cathy Upex studied cello with Dorothy Sumner and Georg Pedersen. She attended the University of Sydney, graduating with a Bachelor of Music (Performance) with Honours and a Bachelor of Arts. She also has AMusA (Cello). Cathy currently teaches cello at Lane Cove Public School, the Glenaeon Rudolf Steiner School, The Scots College, Marist Sisters College, and Mowbray Public School. She has taught at various other schools including The Kings School and St Catherine’s School, Sydney. Cathy performs cello with ensembles including The Metropolitan Orchestra and Artes Christi. While studying Baroque performance as part of her music degree, Cathy started learning the viola da gamba with Jennifer Eriksson. Since 2000, she has performed regularly with the Marais Project and played on several Marais Project CDs including Viol Dreaming (2007), Love Reconciled (2009) and Lady Sings the Viol (2012). She has also performed on the viola da gamba in masterclasses with Wieland Kuijken, Jaap ter Linden, Susie Napper and Margaret Little; and has played with several ensembles including the Renaissance Players, Salut! Baroque, the Sydney Consort, Thoroughbass and the Opera Project. Cathy is a member of Josie and the Emeralds and of Consort 8.

Derek Galloway
After studying with Sheila Laing and Stewart Forbes at school, Derek continued his music studies at Napier University, Edinburgh with Sheila Cochrane, and later with Sheena Gordon (Scottish Chamber Orchestra). He has been fortunate to have attended and played in master classes with such players as Wissam Boustany, David Nicolson, Lorna McGhee, Paul Edmond-Davis, Peter Lloyd, Ian Clarke, and Sir James Galway. Derek played professionally for many years and was a founding member of Zonda Flutes, an award-winning flute trio based in Glasgow. He also played flute with Glasgow Wind Band, one of Europe’s premier symphonic wind orchestras, until re-locating to Australia in 2008. In 2010 Derek launched "Flute Connections", an organisation that provides professional flute workshops and events in NSW. He owns and runs Syrinx Music, a specialist flute and woodwind print music shop in Lane Cove. Derek is an Associate of Trinity College of Music London, has a Diploma in Music from the Open University, and is also a body minded practitioner. Derek is the NSW representative of the "British Flute Society” and is the events manager of "The Flute Society of NSW. "Derek Galloway is a terrific flute teacher and player, filled with creative energy and love for music and life in general. Derek is an enterprising and clever musician, also a lively, thoughtful, and caring flute teacher. Mr Galloway has proved to be an important figure in the nation's flute community." Gino Pengue
Gino has been a professional musician for over 40yrs. In 1992, he started the Guitar program at LCPS with four guitar students. While working at LCPS, he has also tutored at Corpus Christi primary (St Ives) Ravenswood Girls school (Gordon) and St Patrick’s College (Dundas). Over the years, Gino has assisted and participated (as an accompanist) with many students from Primary to HSC Level music exams. Some of these schools include Ravenswood Girls, SCEGGS Darlinghurst, Loreto Normanhurst, Northern Beaches Christian School and St Pius X College. Gino believes passionately about music education for children; it has been his main focus for the past 30 plus years as well as continuing a professional performing career.

Prem Love
B. Mus (Performance) ANU Prem has been teaching woodwind instruments to the students of Lane Cove Public School for the past 12 years. His students have frequently continued to study with him long after having moved on from primary school and even to the end of high school. Prem has also been teaching at Artarmon Public School for more than 20 years and this year started to teach at Mowbray Road Public School. He has directed Primary School Concert Bands at North Sydney Demonstration School, Epping, Eastwood Heights, Ryde, Artarmon and Willoughby Public Schools. Over the years, many of Prem’s former students have gone on to become professional musicians and educators. Prem has directed many different levels and styles of ensembles. In roles at the Orange Regional Conservatorium and the Mitchell Conservatorium in Bathurst, he has worked as Musical Director of the Bathurst Chamber Orchestra, and Director of the Orange Youth Orchestra, Symphonic Wind Ensemble, and Big Phatt Jazz Band. Most significantly he has worked as the Musical Director of the Macquarie Philharmonia for five years. Prem’s roles at the Orange Regional Conservatorium have included Head of Woodwind and Brass and Ensembles Program Director.

Cameron Jones
Cameron Jones is a guitarist, composer, festival director and educator. He specialises in gypsy swing music as popularised by Sinti and Manouche gypsies of Western Europe, known for its percussive guitar rhythms and bright; expressive melodies played on replica French steel string acoustic guitars. •Website: https://cameronjones.co/ •Bandcamp: https://cameronjones1.bandcamp.com/ Musician/Performer Jones graduated from Castle Hill High School in 1993, first in his music class and chose to go into the family business of Locksmithing, where he worked from 1994-2008. He continued his music studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music's Access Program (now called the Open Academy) from 1999 to 2005 and performed in his free time. Between 2015 and 2019 Jones studied manouche jazz abroad with French and Dutch guitar masters, including Fapy Lafertin, Paulus Schäfer, Romino Grundhotz, Nous'che Rosenberg, David Reinhardt (grandson of Django Reinhardt), Samy Daussat and Stephane Wremble (known for his work on Woody Allen film soundtracks). Cameron has toured and performed: •in Australia with European artists Robin Nolan (UK), Lollo Meier (Netherlands) and Irene Ypenberg (Netherlands) •in jazz clubs in Amsterdam and Hong Kong and at the Festival Django Reinhardt in France. •He's a member of Spyglass Gypsies, Gadjo Guitars, and Lolo Lovina and established a solo band, the Cameron Jones Trio, in 2018. His performance credits include Daniel Weltlinger, Ian Date, Ewan McKenzie, Hank Marvin (The Shadows) amongst others. OzManouche OzManouche is Australia's only festival of gypsy jazz music, held every year at the iconic Brisbane Jazz Club. Jones inherited the role of creative director from his friend and mentor, Ewan MacKenzie, in 2017. His vision is to pass on the vibrancy and passion of gypsy swing to the next generation and to provide a more prominent platform for female musicians in this genre and an inclusive space for musicians at every level to hone their abilities. Hank B Marvin | Lead guitarist for The Shadows Guitar Teacher Cameron is a dedicated guitar tutor specialising in primary school-aged students. His goal as a tutor is to lay a firm foundation of musical notation reading and technique to enable students to pursue secondary-level music classes, explore other styles of guitar music or provide a platform for the student to have a fun musical experience. Cameron describes his teaching style as relaxed and fun, with healthy doses of positive feedback to create a comfortable atmosphere for the student to flourish while at the same time encouraging his students to have self-discipline, build concentration skills and learn to work as a group. Dave Kozak
David Paul Kozák has been in music education since 1989, starting his teaching career at The Guitar School of Technology Liverpool NSW, where he taught until 2002. David has been at LCPS since 2017, as Rock Band Co-Ordinator and as a guitar tutor. He also works at Wenona and Roseville College, running ensembles plus giving private lessons. David’s HSC Music 1 students have always achieved high band 5 and band 6 results. David has had a student win Tamworth young and upcoming guitarist, and another receive 98% for Music 1. David was also musical director for School of Rock, creating many successful shows performed in Sydney. Has recorded sessions for the ABC and is currently performing with his Band Diamond Geezer, around the inner west. David has a very relaxed, positive, nurturing approach to his students. Encouraging them to ask questions, make mistakes and to learn from them. David always scaffolds his students to a positive outcome, and they know he is there to nurture their musical development and creativity.

Isaiah Bonfield
Currently studying for BMus (Performance) at the Sydney Conservatorium. Teaching at Lane Cove Public School, Hunters Hill Public School and Hunters Hill High School as well as leading development programs at St Joseph’s college. Isaiah has been taught by Tor Fromhyr, Madeleine Easton and Goetz Richter. Isiah has previously been concertmaster of the Canberra Youth Orchestra and principal second violin of the West Sydney Youth Orchestra and have played in orchestras such as the Australian Youth Orchestra, Melbourne Youth Orchestra and Bach Akademie Australia.

Connie Yang
Connie Yang was born in Australia and first picked up the violin at the age of 6, alongside every sport and activity in the world. As the other passions dissolved, she continued to work on the violin, enjoying the familiarity of the wood rested on her shoulder and the bow balanced delicately under her fingertips. Under the tutelage of Dr Evgeny Sorkin, she joined the Rising Stars program before attending the Conservatorium High School and graduating in 2021. She received her LMusA diploma the same year and is now completing a Bachelor of Music Performance degree, studying with Prof. Goetz Richter and Liisa Pallandi at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. She has also been taught by Zhu Wen, Shu Qi Mou and Benjamin Li, participated in a masterclass with Andrea Gajic from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and has had chamber training with Nicole Divall, Kathy Selby AM and Riley Skevington.

Klara Decker-Stewart
Klara Decker-Stewart began studying violin at age 4 and after graduating from the Conservatorium High school began studying at the Conservatorium of Music under the tuition of Janet Davies. Klara has performed internationally with the Sydney Youth Orchestras and is currently the associate concert master of their flagship Orchestra. Klara has a strong passion for baroque and chamber music and regularly performs in ensembles with highlights including performances in collaboration with the SSO and LSO.

Tony Wheeler
Australian composer, teacher and performer Tony Wheeler graduated from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music in 1982 with a B.Mus. with Distinction in clarinet and composition. With a strong interest in Chinese culture and music, in 1985 he won a government scholarship to spend two years (1985-87) at the Shanghai Conservatory, studying Chinese composition, ruan and guqin. Tony then spent four years studying and teaching at the University of Hong Kong where he received a Master’s Degree in Composition for Chinese instruments in 1991. Since returning to Australia, he has continued to teach, and to perform and record frequently on Western and Chinese instruments in classical, contemporary and improvisatory contexts, breaking new ground in cross cultural Western and Asian musical collaboration. He has played clarinet and saxophone in major orchestras including the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and Sydney Symphony Orchestra. He is a highly experienced clarinet and saxophone teacher, working in several schools and colleges and tertiary institutions in Sydney. This is Tony’s 30th year teaching clarinet at LCPS. During those many years he has had the pleasure and satisfaction of seeing the music program grow in strength, quality and stature. It has been a wonderful opportunity to work alongside his tutoring colleagues, many of whom are amongst Sydney's finest musicians. Many students who begin learning Tony in Year 3 or Year 4 continue their lessons with him as they take their instrumental study into their high school years, in some cases right through to HSC level. Tony believes the extraordinary level of dedication and commitment to music among the students here is both unusual and inspiring. The parents are highly appreciative and supportive of the work we do. Tony has always found the classroom teachers on the staff of LCPS to be warmly supportive of the program, and considerate of our needs in that context.

Glenn Doig
Glenn has been a brass tutor since graduating from the Sydney Conservatorium in 2006 with a "Bachelor of Performance - Jazz Studies", with his studies equally focused on both trombone and piano. He teaches all of the brass instruments including trombone, euphonium, tuba, horn and trumpet. Outside of tuition, Glenn spends his time composing and leading his own ensembles Doig Trio and 8-piece Doig Collective at Sydney's renowned jazz venues including Foundry 616, and the now defunct Venue 505 among others.

Alicia Crossley
Alicia Crossley is one of Australia’s leading recorder players. She performs a wide variety of repertoire from renaissance dance tunes to contemporary electro-acoustic works with a particular interest in bass recorder repertoire. In 2010 Alicia completed her Masters of Music (Performance) at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music under the instruction of Hans-Dieter Michatz. Since then Alicia has won several competitions and awards including the Don Cowell Memorial Trust Recorder Competition, the Australia Council’s ArtStart Grant, and the Fine Music 102.5 Kruger Scholarship. In 2011, Alicia released her debut solo CD Addicted to Bass featuring seven newly commissioned Australian works for bass recorder, followed by her second solo CD Alchemy in 2015, which was nominated for Best Classical Music Album by AIR. In 2018 Alicia released her third CD Muse with the acclaimed Acacia Quartet, which was nominated for Best Classical Album by ARIA. Recently, Alicia released her fourth CD Bass Instincts, featuring compositions that showcase the instinctual musicality, versatility and virtuosity of the bass recorder. An experienced recorder player, Alicia regularly performs throughout Australia and has toured in the USA and New Zealand. She has presented works at a number of festivals and conferences including Four Winds Festival, Tilde New Music Festival, Electro-Fringe, Metropolis, Aurora Festival, Vivid Festival, ACMC, Electronic Music Midwest, and SEAMUS, and has performed with Pinchgut Opera, Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Salut! Baroque, The Sydney Consort, and The Marais Project. Alicia is also a member of the unique and vibrant ensemble Duo Blockstix.

Alexi Caulfield
Alexei has been studying recorder for 11 years under guidance from Hannah Coleman and then Hans-Dieter Michatz as his tutors. He is currently in his second year studying a bachelor’s degree in historical performance on the recorder at the Sydney Conservatorium of music. He has performed on many occasions, with some highlights including the Opera House as a part of the NSW Recorder Consort, NSW Parliament House in 2016 , the online Sydney Sacred Music Festival in 2020, Encore for HSC in 2022, as well as the Australian Recorder Festival Competition in 2023 where he won second place. As well as performance, Alexei is currently tutoring private lessons at Lane Cove public school and offering lessons to people of all ages and levels.
